Hamamatsu University was founded in 1988, as the first four-year private college in the western area of Shizuoka prefecture. Shizuoka is famous for Mt Fuji, tea production and various kinds of manufacturing and Hamamatsu City is not only well known for natural products like mandarin oranges, but is also the hub of industries such as Suzuki and Yamaha, and is the birthplace of Honda and of Roland musical instruments. Located in a suburb of Hamamatsu City, Hamamatsu University is surrounded by rich natural environments.
Since its inception, Hamamatsu University has continued to develop the new educational programs and strengthen its institutional structure for more than twenty years. It started as a college with only one department-the Department of Business Administration and Informatics. Now it has grown into a comprehensive university where students can study medicine, nutritional science, childcare, health science, sports science, business management, informatics, accounting and psychology.
There are nine departments divided amongst three faculties (the Faculty of Business Design, the Faculty of Health Promotional Sciences, the Faculty of Health Sciences), two graduate schools (the Graduate School of Business Administration, the Graduate School of Health Sciences), and an International Student Section for foreign students.
The university boasts a high rate of employment amongst graduates every year and thus the level of satisfaction with university expressed by the graduates is high.
With rich natural surroundings, the university’s facilities include the Informatics Education Center, the Study Support Center, the Sports Medical Science Center, library, gymnasium, natural experience garden and two dining areas to support and intensify the study experience at the campus.
Hamamatsu University also places emphasis on sports, and has received national recognition for its achievements in baseball, soccer, basketball, kendo, and track and field events. Other sports offered include volley ball, rugby, tennis and badminton, aerobics and surfing.
Hamamatsu University provides an atmosphere where you can eagerly pursue “intellectual disciplines” and has already produced a large number of graduates who have become specialists or businessmen who greatly and truly contribute to society.

In this faculty students learn team medicine, nutrition control, childcare, sports science and how to maintain or improve health. We prepare students to become specialists who can promote health in a broad and realistic sense.

Through sports and exercise we approach many aspects of health by observing the many problems arising from everyday life. Students studying here follow the guidelines set up by this department to produce specialists who can work in health related fields with a new concept of health.
Department of Acupuncture and Moxibustion Therapy
In this department we prepare students to become acupuncturists who can broadly contribute to the welfare of any field of society, such as modern medicine, sports, beauty and health care.
Department of Judo Seifuku (Reposition)
It is a therapy which activates the natural power of healing. In this department students learn the advanced technique of judo reposition and the modern medicine essential for practicing it. We aim to produce therapists who can interact and cooperate with hospital doctors and nurses, and to produce therapists who can also help athletes and the general public to keep healthy.
According to the diversification of recent diseases and health problems, rehabilitation is becoming increasingly important. The physical therapist and the occupational therapist play essential and active roles in the field of rehabilitation training. We prepare students to become physical therapists and occupational therapists who have the ability to make the best use of their skills and knowledge which they acquired here, with high ethics and true humanity.

Master Course of Business Administration
In this course we educate students to become businessmen who have practical and technical knowledge about business management. Students also acquire the knowledge and ability to act and adjust themselves to the age of internationalization and information by proactively identifying varied problems in the changing economic and business environments. We help them acquire a positive attitude to venture into new fields of business.
Master Course of Health and Nutritional Sciences
In this course we put great emphasis on producing specialists who have very high technical knowledge and practical ability to carry out plans. We prepare students to become specialists who can research and develop in the field of functional foods, by educating and enabling students to become researchers according to their needs and interests.
Master Course of Clinical Psychology
Hamamatsu University is authorized by the Japanese Certification Board for Clinical Psychologists as a first level school. This course provides an excellent system by which students can gain the knowledge and skills necessary for a clinical psychologist. In addition we have several experienced and qualified teachers, a Clinical Psychology Education Center, and have close interactions with local organizations, which enables students to study and research within their fields of interest. We aim at producing clinical psychologists who can play an important role in various fields such as education, welfare and medicine in the complex modern society in which we live.
